The threaded adapter adapts to both valve types without you having to remove the hose from the pump. You just have to change the integrated pen - done. The pump head is freely movable in the housing. This avoids shaking when pumping, which normally acts on the valve from the pump, damaging it. If you put the threaded retractable pumphead directly onto the valve, it creates an airtight connection that does not fly off even when the tire is inflated to maximum pressure.
